The Hyundai recall is linked to a brake fluid leak that may lead to an electrical short and, in turn, a fire. The remedy is to replace the ABS fuse with one rated for lower amperage to limit the ABS module’s operating current. Kia’s recall is related to the hydraulic electronic control unit developing an electrical short, also posing a fire risk. Kia dealers will replace the HECU’s fuse with a lower-amperage one to prevent excessive current flow through the circuit board.

Both Hyundai and Kia will conduct these repairs free of charge for affected customers, with notifications set to be sent out in November 2023. If you own one of the listed vehicles, it’s advisable to park it away from structures until the necessary repairs are made. You can check if your vehicle is affected using the NHTSA recall tool or the tools provided by Hyundai and Kia.
