The 2024 BMW R 1300 GS represents a significant evolution in the world of adventure-touring motorcycles. BMW Motorrad’s design director, Edgar Heinrich, described the new bike as having a simpler, cleaner design with a modern and easy shape. This redesign focuses on weight reduction, improved performance, and enhanced rider control and feedback.
Key Features and Changes:
Weight Reduction: The new R 1300 GS is 26 pounds lighter than its predecessor, with an “unladen” weight of 523 pounds. This weight reduction contributes to better overall performance and handling.
Engine Performance: The 1300 GS features a new engine with a bore and stroke of 106.5 x 73mm, producing 145 hp at 7,750 rpm and 110 lb.-ft. of torque at 6,500 rpm. The torque is available across a broad RPM range, ensuring strong performance in various riding conditions.
ShiftCam Technology: BMW’s ShiftCam technology provides two different intake timings and valve lifts, optimizing intake velocity for both low and high revs. This technology helps maintain high torque and efficient combustion.
Improved Chassis: The motorcycle features a stiffer and lighter chassis with a sheet-metal shell frame, replacing the previous tubular frame. This design optimizes installation space and enhances overall rigidity. The front axle diameter has been increased from 20mm to 25mm for improved stiffness.

EVO Telelever Suspension: The front suspension now features an EVO Telelever system with a non-tilting upper fork crown, improving steering precision and control.
Advanced Electronics: The motorcycle offers a range of electronic features, including Adaptive Vehicle Height Control, Dynamic Suspension Adjustment, Shift Assist Pro, and more, aimed at simplifying user experience and customization.
Wheel Options: Three types of wheels are available, including cast aluminum, forged enduro, and cross-spoke (wire) wheels, providing customization for different riding styles.
Braking: Twin 310mm brake discs with four-piston calipers at the front and a single 285mm disc at the rear, combined with Integral ABS Pro and Dynamic Brake Control, ensure responsive and reliable braking performance.
Seat Height: The seat height is 33.5 inches, but with the optional Adaptive Vehicle Height Control, it reduces to 32.3 inches for improved rider comfort at low speeds or stops.
