Powerful Boxer Engine: The heart of the R 1300 GS is its new 1,300cc horizontally opposed twin-cylinder boxer engine. This engine produces a robust 145 horsepower at 7,750 rpm and 110 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm. The larger bore, increased valve size, and advanced camshafts contribute to this power boost, making it 9 hp and 5 lb-ft more potent than the previous 1,250cc mill. The engine maintains at least 96 lb-ft of torque between 3,600 and 7,800 rpm.
Underslung Transmission: BMW has relocated the gearbox beneath the crankshaft and integrated it into the engine case. This design not only reduces engine weight by 8.6 pounds but also trims a total of 14.3 pounds from the entire drivetrain.
