Genesis has officially disclosed pricing details for the 2024 GV60 electric crossover, marking its debut in the US electric vehicle market. Alongside this announcement comes the introduction of a new rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant to the lineup, expanding the choices available to consumers.
The newly introduced GV60 RWD is now accessible through Genesis’ expanding network of US dealerships. Priced at a competitive starting point of $52,000, this variant offers a noteworthy increase in driving range compared to its all-wheel-drive (AWD) counterparts. The GV60 RWD boasts an estimated 294 miles of driving range on a full charge, representing a substantial 19% boost, equivalent to 46 miles, compared to the extended-range version of the 2023 GV60 AWD, which holds an EPA-rated range of up to 248 miles.
For consumers who prioritize a premium, zero-emission vehicle without compromising on range, the GV60 RWD is positioned as an enticing option. However, this extended range does come at a cost, as the base GV60 RWD is equipped with a 225-horsepower electric motor, significantly less potent than its AWD counterparts. The Advanced AWD and Performance AWD trims produce 314 hp and 429 hp (483 hp in Boost mode), respectively. The 2024 model year pricing for the Advanced AWD starts at $60,550, while the Performance AWD trim is available for $69,550. Please note that these prices do not include the $1,195 destination and handling fees.
It’s worth noting that the GV60, despite its extended range, falls slightly short of the driving range offered by its mainstream counterparts built on the E-GMP platform. The Kia EV6, for instance, provides an estimated 310 miles of range, while the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is rated at 303 miles, according to EPA estimates. The GV60 RWD employs a 77-kWh battery, slightly smaller than the 77.4-kWh unit used by the AWD variants and its Kia and Hyundai counterparts.
Despite the trade-offs, the 2024 Genesis GV60 RWD doesn’t compromise on features. It includes a generous array of offerings, such as 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and driver information screens, a head-up display, 19-inch wheels, rain-sensing wipers, power-adjustable front seats, and advanced features like fingerprint authentication, Face Connect, and Crystal Sphere.
The introduction of the GV60 RWD coincides with Tesla’s re-launch of the Model Y RWD, also its base and most affordable variant. Tesla outpaces Genesis in terms of pricing, with the Model Y RWD starting at $43,990 before federal tax incentives. However, Genesis offers a competitive and extended range option for those seeking premium EVs.
