Mazda has announced a series of changes and updates for the 2024 MX-5, specifically for the Japanese and Australian markets. While the current generation of the MX-5 has been around since 2014, these updates aim to keep the model fresh and appealing.
Exterior changes for the 2024 MX-5 include new headlamps and LED lights, enhancing the roadster’s look without altering its iconic body design. Additionally, a new radar system has been incorporated to enable adaptive cruise control, a new feature for the model. The 16- and 17-inch wheels also receive a fresh design.
Inside, the 2024 MX-5 boasts a new 8.8-inch screen for the multimedia system. This screen houses Mazda’s current multimedia system, which, while more comprehensive than its predecessor, may still have room for improvement in terms of user-friendliness.
One of the more significant updates is related to the powertrain. The 2024 MX-5 now features a new two-way limited-slip differential, which adjusts its locking behavior when braking or accelerating. The steering has also been fine-tuned to provide improved feedback to the driver. While the 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, not available in Canada, receives a slight power bump, the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, offered in North America, gets new settings. The introduction of a new track mode reduces stability control intervention without completely disabling the system.
These updates are expected to make their way to the North American MX-5, with the only uncertainty being whether they will be included in the 2024 model or the subsequent 2025 edition.
