The compact electric SUV’s technology and competitive pricing attracts a surge in demand.
The IM Motors LS6, a compact electric SUV, developed through a collaboration between SAIC, Alibaba, and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech in China, has become an instant success in the domestic market, amassing over 10,000 orders just one week after its debut.
Smaller in size than its predecessor, the LS7, and boasting a design that occasionally resembles an Aston Martin DBX, the LS6 offers a wealth of technology, impressive performance, and an enticing starting price of 229,900 yuan (approximately $31,480).
The LS6 lineup includes an entry-level variant equipped with a 71 kWh battery and a rear-mounted electric motor, delivering 314 hp and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. This version provides a range of 560 km (348 miles) based on the CLTC cycle. Buyers seeking more power and extended range have the option of a 90 kWh version with 340 hp and the same 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque, capable of covering 680 km (423 miles).
For performance enthusiasts, two potent versions are available. The first comes with a 100 kWh battery and a 515 hp electric motor at the rear axle, accelerating to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds and offering a 760 km (472 miles) range. Topping the LS6 range is an all-wheel-drive variant, also with a 100 kWh battery, but featuring a pair of electric motors producing 787 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. This version sprints from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and can travel 702 km (436 miles) on a single charge.
Car News China reported that an initial 25,000 refundable deposits were made for the EV, with 10,000 of them converting into non-refundable orders. Notably, approximately 31% of LS6 buyers have chosen the 787 hp, all-wheel-drive model, which is priced at 291,900 yuan ($39,970). IM Motors is further sweetening the deal by offering a 12,000 yuan ($1,640) discount on all LS6 models until November 12.
The LS6’s interior features a 26.3-inch display that combines the digital instrument cluster with one of the infotainment screens. Buyers can also opt for a larger dashboard-wide screen with a 15.5-inch display for the passenger. Additionally, IM Motors provides a choice between a traditional flat-bottomed steering wheel and a yoke steering configuration.
