The New E-Class L offers abundant space and tech for rear passengers at a lower price point

Mercedes has introduced the extended E-Class L in China, following the debut of the standard W214 model six months ago. The E-Class L is designed to be an economical alternative to the larger S-Class flagship, providing ample space, technology, and comfort for rear passengers.

Visually, the E-Class L stands out with its longer rear doors, thicker C-pillars, rear quarter glass, and a unique emblem on the D-pillars, giving it a resemblance to a Maybach. The rest of the design elements are inherited from the regular E-Class, including the iconic star emblem on the grille, LED taillights, and puddle lights. The AMG Line offers sportier features such as distinctive wheels, bumpers, and a unique illuminated grille, differentiating it from the base trims with a traditional hood ornament.

The Chinese version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class L measures 5,092 mm in length, a significant increase of 143 mm over the standard E-Class, with 5.2 inches contributing to the extended 3,094 mm wheelbase.

Inside the cabin, the dashboard is carried over from the E-Class, featuring the available hyperscreen with three large displays tailored for the region. Rear passengers benefit from increased knee room, reclining seatbacks, and electrically adjustable leg rests. Additional amenities include neck-heating function for the rear headrests, a dual-phone wireless charging pad integrated into the armrest, and a premium Burmester sound system with seat vibration effects. It also includes a special button to fold the front passenger seat electrically, providing additional legroom for those being chauffeured. The door cards have ambient lighting strips that extend upwards and behind the rear headrests for a more luxurious ambiance.

In China, the E-Class L is expected to be available with a 4-cylinder powertrain in two versions, including the E270L with 201 hp and the more powerful E300L with 255 hp. The vehicle comes with air suspension and rear-wheel steering.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class L will go on sale in China in the near future, with plans to expand into the Indian market in the second half of 2024. This extended variant joins the standard sedan, Estate, and All-Terrain wagon as the fourth body style in the new E-Class lineup.
