Suzuki’s new Swift Concept offers a glimpse of the 2024 model with stylish updates and mild-hybrid power.

Suzuki showcased an exciting new concept car at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, offering a promising preview of the forthcoming 2024 Suzuki Swift model. The outgoing Suzuki Swift, introduced in 2016 and updated in 2020, was ripe for a major overhaul. The new generation retains the recognizable Swift design language but brings significant updates, including enhanced aerodynamics and modern technology.

The Swift’s new face features a slightly smaller honeycomb grille, with the Suzuki emblem now positioned beneath the clamshell bonnet. Its headlights have been reshaped, showcasing stylish LED graphics and a more discreet bumper intake with an aluminum-style trim.

The two-tone treatment is retained on the profile, with mirrors, pillars, and a “floating” roof finished in black, while a new character line above the conventional door handles adds a fresh look. The concept’s diamond-cut alloy wheels, usually not seen in concept cars, appear production-ready in terms of their size.

The rear of the concept hosts smaller, boxier LED taillights with a dark background and black trim on the lower part of the bumper. The concept also introduced a new Frontier Blue Pearl Metallic color, expected to be available in the production model’s color palette.

Inside, the cabin has undergone significant changes, reflecting a layout similar to the slightly larger Suzuki Baleno. The white plastic trim extends to the doors, adding a modern touch. The infotainment display, likely a 9-inch unit, features touch-sensitive shortcuts. The steering wheel, climate controls, and various interior elements are familiar from other Suzuki models, giving the interior a clean and budget-oriented design. The car boasts multiple USB charging ports, but the presence of a CD slot on the center console adds a touch of nostalgia.

Suzuki has a history of equipping its models with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in specific markets, including Europe and Japan, and the new Swift will be no exception. It will feature an enhanced collision mitigation system called “Dual Sensor Brake Support II,” as well as “Driver Monitoring” and “Adaptive High Beam” systems.

The 2024 Suzuki Swift, measuring 3,860 mm (152 inches) in length, 1,695 mm (66.7 inches) in width, 1,500 mm (59.1 inches) in height, with a 2,450 mm (96.5 inches) wheelbase, is nearly identical in size to the outgoing model. It is expected to be based on an evolved version of the existing Heartect architecture.

While the exact details of the powertrain are not provided, it’s described as a “high-efficiency” engine with “low fuel consumption,” paired with a CVT gearbox. Observers who got a peek under the bonnet report the presence of a three-cylinder motor with a mild-hybrid system, distinct from the current 1.25-liter K12C unit, which has four cylinders. The electrified version is expected to be joined by an ICE-only version for markets like India, with rumors circulating about a “strong hybrid” variant for the European market.

Based on the concept’s appearance, it’s anticipated that the production-ready 2024 Suzuki Swift will be unveiled in Japan by year-end, with the Swift Sport, a hot hatch version of the new generation, likely arriving in time for the 2025 model year.

The 2024 Suzuki Swift promises to be a worthy successor to the popular outgoing model, retaining the Swift’s iconic style while offering modern updates and mild-hybrid power for a more efficient and stylish driving experience.
