Volvo Cars has announced that its upcoming all-electric model, the Volvo EX30, will also be produced at the company’s Ghent plant in Belgium, starting in 2025.
This decision was taken in response to strong demand for the small electric crossover/SUV. The EX30 is expected to become one of Volvo’s best-selling models and will be sold globally, including in the U.S., where pricing will start at $36,245 for the rear-wheel-drive version and significantly more for the all-wheel-drive version.
Volvo’s strategy is to build its cars as close to its customers as possible. The addition of a European manufacturing site for the EX30 will boost production capacity for the European market and global exports. This move will provide flexibility in production, especially in times of supply chain challenges and potential trade disputes.
Volvo aims to increase the share of all-electric cars in its sales to 50% by the mid-decade and to reach 100% by 2030. The EX30 is part of Volvo’s expanding electric vehicle lineup, which includes the EX90 and EM90 models.
Jim Rowan, Volvo Cars’ Chief Executive, emphasized the company’s goal of making the EX30 an attractive and accessible electric SUV for customers around the world.
