Closer Technical Alliance with Red Bull and Strategic Upgrades Key to Success

AlphaTauri, set to be rebranded ahead of the 2024 Formula 1 season, is determined to begin the upcoming season on a strong note and avoid the catch-up scenario faced in the early stages of the previous year. Technical Director Jody Egginton emphasized the team’s goal to build on the momentum achieved in the second half of the 2023 season.

The Faenza squad, benefiting from a closer technical alliance with Red Bull, experienced a challenging start to the 2023 season but made significant progress with a substantial upgrade package, including adopting Red Bull’s rear suspension. This propelled AlphaTauri into regular points contention and secured an eighth-place finish in the Constructors’ Championship.

Egginton highlighted the importance of a solid start to the 2024 season and the desire to follow a more measured and consistent approach to car development. The team aims to avoid the intense catch-up efforts witnessed in the previous year, allowing for a more structured development process.

“We want to be able to take a more measured and consistent approach. And if the car is a bit stronger out of the box at the start of the season, we can refine the approach we want to do, and that’ll be a good measure of the progress we’re making,” Egginton explained.

Despite the late-season recovery and coming close to surpassing Williams for seventh place, Egginton acknowledged that AlphaTauri fell short of its overall target in 2023. He emphasized the need for the team to address specific targets and aspirations, acknowledging the competitive nature of the F1 development race during the season.

The goal for AlphaTauri in the upcoming season is to replicate the progress achieved from 2020 to 2021, hitting the ground running with a solid start and maintaining a consistent and measured development trajectory. The closer technical alliance with Red Bull and strategic upgrades will play a crucial role in the team’s pursuit of success in the 2024 Formula 1 season.
