Chinese Automaker Dongfeng Opens Orders for its Latest EV, Offering Sleek Design and Competitive Pricing

Dongfeng, the Chinese automaker, has opened orders for its latest electric vehicle, the eπ 007, with an enticing starting price of 159,000 yuan (approximately $22,400). Positioned as an affordable yet stylish electric fastback, the eπ 007 boasts a sleek and aerodynamic design, featuring a low drag coefficient of only 0.209 Cd.

Distinctive Design Features:
The four-door electric fastback exhibits a modern and appealing design, with slim LED daytime running lights, lower-positioned main headlamp clusters, and an angular crease compensating for the absence of a traditional front grille. The vehicle’s exterior also includes flush-fitting door handles, slender LED taillights, and an optional retractable spoiler. Notably, Chinese customers can opt for scissor doors inspired by Lamborghini, available as part of a special optional package for specific models.

Interior and Technology:
Despite its competitive starting price, the eπ 007 offers a feature-rich interior. The center of the dashboard features a 15.6-inch infotainment display, complemented by an 8.8-inch driving cluster that can flip around, reminiscent of high-end sports cars. The interior is equipped with front 8-point massage seats, a 64-color ambient lighting system, a premium 20-speaker sound setup, 50W wireless charging, and facial recognition for door unlocking. The vehicle incorporates advanced technology, including a comprehensive array of 38 sensors for functions such as memory parking, remote control parking, and an advanced driving assistance system.

The eπ 007 is available in both battery-electric and range-extended electric variants.

53-Pro BEV: Equipped with a 56.83 kWh battery pack, a rear electric motor delivering 215 hp and 229 lb-ft of torque. Offers a range of up to 530 km (329 miles) on a single charge and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

620Pro: Features a larger 70.26 kWh battery pack, a rear electric motor with 268 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. Accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and offers a range of up to 620 km (385 miles) on a single charge.

540 Max: Performance-focused variant with the same 70.26 kWh battery pack, two electric motors delivering a combined 536 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. Accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and has a range of 540 km (336 miles) on a single charge.

200Pro (Range-Extended): Combines a 1.5-liter engine, a 28.39 kWh battery, and a rear electric motor (215 hp) for a total range of up to 1,200 km (745 miles).

Early bird buyers are eligible for a special subsidy of 10,000 yuan ($1,400) that can be applied towards additional features, accessories, or packages. The eπ 007 aims to provide an affordable yet feature-packed electric vehicle option for the Chinese market.
