Security Measures Tightened Following Unacceptable Track Invasion in 2023; FIA Investigation Ongoing

In the wake of the chaotic breach of safety protocols at the conclusion of the 2023 Australian Grand Prix, Formula 1 officials have decided to eliminate the tradition of allowing fans onto the track after this year’s race. The breach occurred when spectators, disregarding safety measures, entered the track prematurely, posing potential risks during the cooldown lap and compromising the safety of both fans and drivers.

During the 2023 event, fans were witnessed climbing fences and encroaching on the track while cars were still circulating, leading to an unacceptable situation that could have had disastrous consequences. Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg’s stranded car, displaying a flashing red light due to a suspected engine issue, added further complexity to the situation.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) has confirmed that, in light of the ongoing investigation by the FIA into the track breach, fans will not be granted access to the track following the 2024 race. The AGPC emphasized that decisions regarding future patron access to the track will be determined at a later date, pending the findings and recommendations from the security measures review currently underway.

The Australian Grand Prix, a fixture on the F1 calendar since 1996, will continue its position as the third round of the 2024 season, taking place from March 22 to March 24.
